Working Principle

Based on the Seebeck effect, the thermocouple consists of two different metal conductors welded together to form a closed loop. When there is a temperature difference between the two ends, a thermal electromotive force is generated in the loop. If the temperature of one end (the reference end) is kept constant, the thermal electromotive force of the loop becomes a single - valued function of the temperature of the measurement end.

 

Types

Common types include the single platinum - rhodium thermocouple (platinum - rhodium 10 - platinum) and the double platinum - rhodium thermocouple (platinum - rhodium 30 - platinum - rhodium 6). The long - term maximum operating temperature of the single platinum - rhodium thermocouple is 1300℃, and the short - term maximum is 1600℃. The double platinum - rhodium thermocouple can operate at a long - term high temperature of 1600℃ and a short - term high temperature of 1800℃.
