Types of Armored Rtds

The Armored Rtds produced by our company mainly include the following types:

01

Hirschmann Connector 3 Wires Rtd Sensors

The Hirschmann connector PT100 platinum resistance (movable thread) is a PT100 package with the Hirschmann connector as the lead wire connection. The use of movable threads as a fixing method makes it easier to install and easier to use.

02

6 Wire Rtd

Its resistance value has a certain functional relationship with the temperature, and when used with the display instrument, it can measure the temperature of -200~500℃, with the characteristics of high precision and good stability.

03

Pt100 4 Wire

These styles are used to measure fluid or gas temperatures in pipes and tanks. Most sensors have the sensing element located at the tip of the stainless steel tube.

Key Features of Armored Rtds

Explosion-proof Design
These sensors feature a robust explosion-proof head construction, meticulously engineered to contain any potential internal explosions and prevent the ignition of surrounding explosive atmospheres. They comply with strict international explosion-proof standards, such as ATEX (for Europe), IECEx (international), and FM (in the United States), ensuring reliable operation in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas where flammable gases, vapors, or dust may be present.

Multi-point Temperature Sensing
Unlike single-point sensors, multi-point RTD sensors are capable of measuring temperature at several locations simultaneously. This enables comprehensive monitoring of large equipment, pipelines, or storage tanks. By providing multiple temperature readings, operators can detect temperature gradients, hotspots, or abnormal temperature variations, which are essential for early fault detection and process optimization. For example, in a long oil pipeline, multi-point sensors can identify sections where heat loss is excessive or where there may be blockages causing temperature changes.

High Precision and Accuracy
Utilizing high-quality RTD elements, typically made of platinum (Pt100 is a common type), these sensors offer excellent precision and accuracy in temperature measurement. They can achieve temperature measurement accuracies within ±0.1°C to ±0.3°C over a wide temperature range, from -200°C to 600°C or even higher in some specialized models. This level of accuracy ensures that the temperature data obtained is reliable for critical process control and safety monitoring applications.

Durable and Reliable
Built to withstand the harsh conditions of the oil and gas industry, these sensors are constructed from durable materials such as stainless steel, which provides resistance to corrosion from oil, gas, moisture, and chemicals. They are also designed to endure mechanical vibrations, shocks, and extreme temperature fluctuations that are common in oil rigs, refineries, and other oil and gas facilities. With a long service life and low maintenance requirements, they offer a cost-effective solution for continuous temperature monitoring.

Flexible Installation
Explosion-proof head multi-point RTD sensors come with various installation options to suit different applications. They can be installed directly into process vessels, pipelines, or tanks using threaded, flanged, or weld-in connections. The sensor cables or wires are also designed for easy routing and connection to control systems, allowing for seamless integration into existing monitoring and automation setups.

FAQ

Q: What are the three different configuration for the RTDs?

A: RTDs work generally with three different configurations such as 2-wire, 3-wire, and 4-wire. What is the best configuration of RTD? The answer depends on the application as well as the number of factors such as initial cost, space, environment, accuracy requirement.

Q: Do RTDs need to be shielded?

A: RTDs, on the other hand, can be wired with standard cable for much longer distances; however, they are typically limited by issues related to self-heating errors. In both cases, the extension wiring must be shielded against electrical noise in the plant.

Q: Why do RTDs have three wires?

A: To compensate for lead wire resistance, 3-wire RTDs have a third wire that provides a measurement of the resistance of the lead wire and subtracts this resistance from the read value.

Q: Do RTDs need special wire?

A: 2- and 3-wire RTD's also require heavier (more expensive) lead wire because heavy wire creates less resistance to the sensor. But, lead resistance is a non-issue for 4-wire RTD's, so smaller gauge wire (22AWG) can be used with no ill effect.

Q: Do RTDs need to be calibrated?

A: RTDs provide stable and reliable signals when configured correctly. A recalibration can be used to confirm signal integrity and increase confidence in critical temperature measurements.

Q: Does an RTD need a thermowell?

A: A thermowell is a structure that surrounds the thermocouple (or RTD) probe and protects it from aspects of the process such as fluid flow rates or caustic or degrading materials. Thermowells are also used to maintain the integrity of pressure boundaries in systems.
