Thermocouples and RTDs are the most widely used industrial thermometers (also called temperature sensors). They generally consist of two ends and five components:Two ends: Measuring end & Connection end.Five components: Temperature sensing element, insulation assembly, protection tube, connection assembly, and mounting fixture.

Thermocouples and RTDs differ only in the sensing element; all other parts and structures are identical.A product using a thermocouple sensing element is called a thermocouple thermometer (thermocouple for short).A product using an RTD sensing element is called an RTD thermometer (RTD for short).

Performance Features

Assembled thermocouples / RTDs feature:

Simple structure, easy manufacturing, high popularity and large usage

Large diameter, high strength, convenient installation and maintenance

Common diameters: φ12, φ16, φ20

Standard length generally ≤ 3 meters

Support custom production, but with relatively low efficiency and higher cost

Thermal response time slower than MI (mineral-insulated) thermocouples / RTDs

Classification & Applications

By protection tube:Standard type, reduced-bore type, wear-resistant type, anti-corrosion type, high-temperature type, etc.

By connection head:Simple type, waterproof type, explosion-proof type, local-display type, etc.

By mounting:Fixed-free, threaded, flanged, ferrule-type, etc.

Assembled thermocouples / RTDs are widely used for temperature measurement in industrial equipment and processes, such as electric furnaces, ovens, tanks, pipelines, and various combustion, heating, and physical–chemical reaction systems.
