Thermocouples For Ingot Furnaces / Diffusion Furnaces

Mar 23, 2026 Leave a message

Overview

Thermocouples for ingot furnaces and diffusion furnaces are precious metal thermocouples specifically designed for photovoltaic industry applications such as polysilicon ingot furnaces and semiconductor diffusion furnaces, primarily available in three calibration grades: R, S, and B.

The nominal diameter of the precious metal thermocouple wire is 0.5 mm, with a tolerance of -0.015 mm.

For R and S grade thermocouples: the maximum long-term operating temperature is 1300°C, and the maximum short-term operating temperature is 1600°C.

  • For B grade thermocouples: the maximum long-term operating temperature is 1600°C, and the maximum short-term operating temperature is 1800°C.
  • A B-grade thermocouple is also known as a platinum-rhodium 30-platinum-rhodium 6 thermocouple. Since both the positive and negative electrodes are platinum-rhodium alloys, it is also called a double platinum-rhodium thermocouple.
  • Positive electrode (BP): nominal chemical composition: 30% rhodium, 70% platinum
  • Negative electrode (BN): nominal chemical composition: 6% rhodium, 94% platinum

B-type thermocouples offer the advantages of high accuracy, excellent stability, wide temperature measurement range, long service life, and high upper temperature limit in the thermocouple series. They are suitable for oxidizing and inert atmospheres, and can also be used in vacuum for short periods, but not for reducing atmospheres or atmospheres containing metal/non-metal vapors. No compensation cable is required for B-type thermocouples, as their thermoelectric potential is less than 3μV in the 0~50°C range.
